Sei was optimized for DeFi trading, but Sui is designed to deliver much broader capabilities. The chain has great finality, which was the only area that Sui had an advantage over Solana until recently, but now, with Albenglow, that is no longer the case.
Sei is the layer 1 blockchain built using Cosmos SDK that also came from the genesis of Facebook's Diem, but they went down a completely different path.
