It is OCTA Tuesday, and it is also the first day of the Bitcoin Conference, which I will be covering.
So far, nothing new has broken from the conference on day 1. This will be an interesting one, and this is called Melt Up & Momentum.
I know that magazines and similar publications often share fear.
The article claims a potential 20-fold reduction in quantum resources required to break RSA encryption, based on Google's research.
The implication is that Bitcoin itself is at imminent risk in three to five years. This is both misleading and speculative. Current quantum computers are, by orders of magnitude, too weak to threaten Bitcoin's ECDSA, and practical attacks are likely decades away, not years.
The Bitcoin community will address those risks when the time comes and make sure the protocol is quantum-proof. For now, ignore these headlines.
